I have been cleaning out and reinventing my living space for a bout a year now. It has been a journey, because I hold on to many useless items by attaching memories and sentiments to them. That is how I really know I am growing up, by de-cluttering and giving away many pointless yet precious knick-knacks I have held on to for years. What I once called a ‘masterpiece collection of memories’ I am now seeing a space that is still very ‘me’ yet also more grown-up. I am aiming to make a space I can reflect in, not upon. As well as a space I can create new memories and ideas to share.

Today is the day I cleaned out that one space that inevitably accumulates for everyone, the junk drawer.

Here is what I found:

• “True Stories of Angel Encounters: Angels All Around Us” by Lynn Valentine
• A golf ball given to me by my grandfather – Once while he was out on the green, he picked up this ball that was shoved in the ground, wiped it off and saw my name written on the back in blue sharpie.
• Two Whistles from when I used to lifeguard.
• Multiple scribbled down Wi-fi passwords and phone numbers
• A broken Hard Rock Cafe pendant from Washington D.C.
• Four Abercrombie & Fitch Associate Cards
• A USB Power Block
• Three Way power adapter
• Two Universal Phone cords
• Eyeglass Lens Cleaner, which is strange because I do not wear glasses.
• Burt’s Bees Chapstick
• SOUND SLEEP Aromatherapy
• A watch, that still works and was the correct time despite staying the drawer through multiple daylight savings.
• Dry-Erase Markers
• One feminine Product
• My Night Guard
• Blue Metallic ‘Mermaid’ hair
• Harmonica
• Key to my chest (or to my heart?)
• Loom Bands and String Bracelets either I made myself or young kids have made for me.
• Surfboard Shrinky-Dink (comment below if you know what those are!)
• D’Light Thumb
• Green Gel Phone case
• Multi-Colored Pins to mark where I have been on my world map.
• A single bag of colored powder I have never used though I have always wanted to.
